Automation and drums: meeting key market demands

Global economic instability has not hindered the corporate strategies of Pajusco Tecnologie in Montebello Vicentino, as the company propels its growth trajectory through the launch of innovative products.

Despite a widespread decline in consumption, largely driven by global economic uncertainty, Pajusco Tecnologie is not deviating from its corporate strategies. Based in Montebello Vicentino (a town within the Arzignano leather district), the company has a rich history spanning over 60 years in manufacturing cutting-edge systems for the tanning industry, “We remain steadfast in our commitment to the project we’ve intensified over the last two decades,” assures owner Olimpio Storti, who helms the family business alongside his brothers. “Its value is continually affirmed by the market, both in Italy and internationally, which consistently shows strong interest and curiosity in our products. Undeniably, the current market climate presents challenges, with many contracts and agreements being deferred—some to the latter half of this year, others to early 2026. However, it’s crucial to note that no clients are looking to abandon Pajusco technologies; they are simply requesting extensions due to the prevailing global instability, driven by a complex mix of economic and non-economic factors affecting all continents and countries. For instance, while the threatened US tariffs haven’t yet had direct economic repercussions, the mere announcements have unfortunately sown confusion, concern, and a degree of alarmism.”
Nevertheless, the interim review for 2025 (this interview was conducted in early May – Ed.) paints a positive picture. “Since the start of the year,” the Veneto-based entrepreneur continues, “we’ve partnered with other organizations to establish numerous chemical laboratories, including in-house industrial facilities, by supplying our new-generation drums and their integrated automation systems. Within our local tanning district, we’ve collaborated with the Veneto Leather District, an entity that has recently been spearheading truly innovative international projects alongside companies, other institutions, and the Universities of Padua and Veneto. Furthermore, we’re engaged with a prestigious start-up, newly established in Arzignano and backed by a major tanning group. For them, we’ve designed and manufactured a significant number of laboratory drums in steel and polypropylene, along with various automation components. This is immensely gratifying for us, not just because we were selected from a competitive field, but also because this partnership, which brings together a formidable team of highly skilled professionals and managers—is pushing us to grow, tackle fresh challenges, and rise to meet their exacting requirements.”
The relentless advancement of automation, not only in Italy but globally, is unlocking significant opportunities for Pajusco Tecnologie. Concurrently, the company’s technical office maintains robust investment in research and development, focused on creating novel products that are frequently patented prior to market introduction. “Indeed, over the past two to three years,” he notes, “we’ve seen a surge in requests from both tanneries and chemical company laboratories. These inquiries are not just for complete systems but also for individual components, including our advanced drums. We’ve been engineering these for years to deliver superior efficiency, energy savings, and a suite of options, most notably remote control capabilities with the capacity for immediate intervention. In a recent example, a prominent Indian group ordered approximately ten of our latest-generation drums for the Eastern market.”
The Montebello Vicentino company has already finalized its participation in key international industry exhibitions for the current year. “We’ve already exhibited,” Olimpio Storti concludes, “at the fairs in Chennai, India, and Hong Kong. Looking ahead, we will certainly be at Simac Tanning Tech in Milan this September, an event that has firmly established itself as the premier global gathering for our sector.”
