Cirql Zero™: The Biodegradable Revolution for Footwear Midsoles

Cirql™, a Vietnamese company at the forefront of sustainable footwear component manufacturing, launches Cirql Zero™, a fully compostable and biodegradable midsole foam, previewed at ISPO Munich. Available to brands from January 2025, this innovation promises to revolutionize the footwear industry, offering a concrete solution to the problem of end-of-life shoe disposal.

Goodbye to Landfills: Cirql Zero™ is born from Cirql™’s commitment to environmental sustainability and is part of a comprehensive range of solutions for low-impact footwear production. In addition to Cirql Zero™, the company offers rTPU30, a 30% recycled material ideal for the production of recyclable midsoles.

A Performing and Sustainable Material: “Cirql Zero™ is the answer to the needs of brands that have been looking for a biodegradable midsole material for years without compromising performance,” says Matt Thwaites, Vice President and General Manager of Cirql. “This innovative, lightweight, comfortable and durable foam is suitable for different types of footwear, from sports to luxury.”

360° Sustainability: Cirql Zero™ is made with a proprietary polymer compound and produced using supercritical foaming with inert gases. It degrades 90% in 180 days, exceeding industrial compostability standards. Furthermore, its production versatility makes it easily integrated into existing production processes.

A Step Forward Towards Sustainability: Cirql™ is committed to supporting brands in achieving their sustainability goals by offering innovative and traceable solutions. The company recently obtained GRS certification for its factory in Vietnam, confirming its commitment to transparency and environmental responsibility.

With Cirql Zero™ and rTPU30, Cirql™ is positioned as a key partner for brands who want to reduce the environmental impact of their footwear, contributing to a more sustainable future for the industry.

Cirql Zero debuts at ISPO Munich as the midsole in a concept shoe called the “Disappearing Shoe,” designed and developed by the Cirql team. Cirql’s Disappearing Shoe concept can be seen first-hand at the brand’s booths in Hall A2, Stand 426 and in the BrandNew Village, Hall B2, Stand 100-38. It’s also a finalist for the ISPO BrandNew Award.
