Far Out, growth and innovation: a step ahead in the footwear industry

Far Out, a young company based in Italy’s Marche region, specializes in manufacturing outsoles for footwear using Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA). Since 2019, they have been making significant strides in the market with their determination and expertise. Their ambition? To become a supplier for all the major fashion brands. We spoke with Marco Gennari, CEO of the company.
How did Far Out come about?
After graduating with a degree in Economics and Business, specializing in Business Law, I gained a couple of years of experience as CEO of a footwear company. Then, at 28, I founded Far Out, which quickly established itself in the market, achieving an annual turnover growth of around 120%.
What is your specialization?
We produce outsoles for footwear using various materials, but our core business is EVA. It’s a lightweight, flexible, and incredibly durable material. However, despite its excellent properties, EVA is not as widely used in the footwear industry due to the challenges it presents in processing.
You have already received significant recognition.
Yes, we have won numerous awards, including recognition as one of the fastest-growing companies in the past five years. We are ranked 83rd in Italy and, according to Il Sole 24 Ore, have the highest growth rate. Forbes magazine ranks us 340th in Europe, but within our specific sector, we are third in Italy and fourth in Europe. We started from scratch, and today we have around 100 employees and prestigious clients like Prada, Fendi, Gucci, and Ferragamo. We diversify our production to meet a wide range of needs, from the meticulous demands of high-fashion clients seeking “Made in Italy” quality to those requiring millions of pairs. The constant activity of our R&D department is the driving force behind our success, enabling us to tackle the challenges of the industry head-on.
Not many entrepreneurs at 34 can boast of having created and managed a company of this scale.
It’s true, and I’m proud of it. When you start a company in your thirties, many people think you’re crazy—and they’re not entirely wrong! But I believe a country’s strength lies in the ability of its young people to create their own future, which is what I’m striving to do. I must acknowledge, however, that reaching this point wouldn’t have been possible without my incredible team, who are incredibly dedicated. Thanks to them, we have achieved these results, which are both a milestone and a new beginning.
What are your next goals?
We aim to become a global company with points of sale worldwide. With recent openings in Serbia and China, we have already embarked on this journey. Our next opening will likely be in Mexico, which would allow us to effectively penetrate the American footwear market. Our ultimate goal is to serve the entire fashion world with our brand.
