At the 2025 Simac Tanning Tech in Milan, the Montorso (Vicenza) based company Nexus Automation is set to reintroduce its BB01 automatic leather-stacking system for the tanning sector, featuring innovative and updated versions. But that’s not all—two other exciting new developments are also on the horizon.
For the September edition of Simac Tanning Tech, Nexus, located in Montorso (Vicenza) within the renowned Arzignano leather district, is ready to unveil a powerful trio of innovations. The owners of the Veneto-based company, which specializes in designing and producing electrical and electronic equipment for automating plants and machinery (primarily for the tanning sector but also extending to other industries), have decided to once again highlight Big Brother. This cutting-edge automatic system for stacking leather in tanneries was first previewed at the past two editions of the exhibition.
“The BB01 model of Big Brother,” explained Mirco Roncolato, co-owner and partner of Nexus alongside Luca Fracasso, “remains our flagship product. It’s how we’ve taken on the Italian and global markets, and we’re confident it represents an innovative, future-forward solution. Visitors to our stand at the Milan Fair will be able to see this machine in full operation, complete with newly implemented cycles for half-hides and platform deposition. Over the past year, we’ve introduced further innovations and enhancements, aiming to maximize its performance. After successfully passing rigorous testing, it has been installed in several tanneries across the Arzignano district for approximately three years, operating on various processing lines with numerous leather types. This extensive real-world testing has allowed us to refine every aspect of the machine. We’ve decided to postpone the production of the 2026 model because the units we’ll be producing will feature significant improvements and simplifications compared to the model being re-presented at the fair. This marks a decisive turning point in a project that has required years of dedication and in which we enthusiastically believe.”
“The other two innovations we’re excited to present at this year’s event,” Roncolato added, “are Tannery 5.0 and Sortec. Tannery 5.0 is our new software for drum automation, representing another significant leap forward in technology. By September, four systems will have been operational for a year, with both the software and hardware meeting global standards. Sortec, on the other hand, is an innovative technology designed to digitalize an operation that is currently still manual in the leather selection phase. This system is in high demand from the market, particularly from tanning entrepreneurs. While these are certainly significant new developments, our engineers in the technical office, in collaboration with our R&D department, are continuously working on other equally innovative projects that we look forward to introducing in the coming years. While we don’t have a specific slogan for the 2025 Fair, for our company—from top management down to every employee—innovation is driven by a profound passion for our work.”
Expectations for the September event are high. “While we’re not yet globally renowned,” concluded the owner of Nexus, “we’ve sent invitations to key players, especially large tanning groups beyond the Arzignano district. This year, you’ll find us again in Hall 6 at Simac Tanning Tech. We’re hoping to attract significant interest from industry professionals, including those from abroad. Our core business continues to center on digitalization and innovation. Ultimately, it all comes back to a core principle: customers demand more technological advancements, and positive responses are coming from companies like ours, built on sound investments and hard work. For us, the first half of 2025 has been excellent, and we’re confident we can maintain this momentum in the second half. We’re now reaping the rewards of what we’ve sown over the past two to three years.”
