Fur in the Covid era
In recent years, the fur sector faced many difficulties, mainly arising from the global environmentalist attitude that influenced
many fashion houses to exclude this precious material from their collections. At the same time, environmentalism gave the major
manufacturers the strength to overcome the crisis, highlighting the naturalness and eco-sustainability of fur.
Once the biggest clashes were over and some recovery signs emerged, the pandemic broke out, upsetting our lives and canceling the “normality” we were used to, from a human and social point of view as well as economically and financially.
The international health emergency led to lockdowns and travel restrictions; manufacturers struggled to survive. The fur sector
adopted several initiatives to overcome the crisis by implementing production methods, focusing on traceability, sustainability and naturalness of fur and increasing its digital visibility through online platforms.
Even the most famous trade fairs and auction houses in the world have rolled up their sleeves to counter the issues, mostly related
to travel restrictions, caused by the health emergency, which prohibited international buyers from physically attend any event.
