Fondata nel 2000 con sede a Montebello Vicentino (VI), COS.T.A. srl è un’azienda specializzata nella progettazione, realizzazione e installazione di linee e impianti completi per lavorazioni speciali quali spalmatura, goffratura, stampa, coagulazione, accoppiatura, nobilitazione di croste e pelli. Nata su iniziativa di tre tecnici con un’esperienza pluridecennale nel settore della spalmatura, l’azienda è oggi una realtà produttiva Mariano Rovetti di primo piano, conosciuta sui mercati internazionali per l’elevato contenuto tecnologico dei pro- pri macchinari, che possono essere impiegati su un’ampia gamma di materiali – non solo pelli sintetiche, ma anche tessuti, carta, materie plastiche, ABS, PVC e poliuretano, film plastici, pelli e fibre tecniche come il carbonio, il kevlar e il vetro. Oltre ad un catalogo di soluzioni realizzate su misura, COS.T.A. può contare su un personale altamente qualificato, capace di assicurare un’efficace servizio di assistenza sia pre- che post-vendita. Tutti i macchinari prodotti dalla ditta vicentina vengono sottoposti a continui controlli, verifiche e collaudi, nel pieno rispetto di tutte le normative comunitarie in materia di controllo della qualità e sicurezza. Una parte significativa delle risorse aziendali viene investita in attività di ricerca e sviluppo, potendo contare anche sul prezioso contributo dell’ufficio tecnico interno, per poter così presen- tare macchine e impianti più sicuri, più competitivi ed affidabili, ma al contempo più pratici ed intuitivi. Abbiamo intervistato Mariano Rovetti, uno dei soci fondatori di COS.T.A., che ci ha raccontato più nel dettaglio le ragioni del successo di questa realtà tutta Made in Italy.

Ci parli di come è nata COS.T.A. L’azienda è stata fondata nel 2000, ma molti dei nostri dipendenti posso- no contare su un’esperienza di 30 anni nell’ambito della spalmatura. Io stesso ho iniziato a lavorare in questo settore da quando avevo 16 anni. Il mio lavoro era quello di tecnico, montare le macchine, testarle e farle funzionare. Nelle aziende in cui ho lavorato, gran parte degli interventi erano all’estero, dove formavo la mia squadra e poi procedevo all’allineamento, alla taratura e al collaudo degli impianti. Sono sempre stato molto appassionato al mio lavoro. Dopo aver maturato 30 anni di esperienza nel settore, con i miei soci, abbiamo capito che c’era lo spazio per un nuovo tipo di approccio e abbiamo dato vita alla COS.T.A.
Qual è il segreto del successo di COS.T.A.? Vista la crisi che aveva colpito il comparto tessile tra fine anni ’90 e inizio 2000 e la crescita esponenziale della concorrenza cinese, in quel mo- mento abbiamo deciso che l’unico modo in cui potevamo avere successo era imparare a fare qualcosa di completamente nuovo. C’era bisogno di idee davvero innovative. Visto eravamo vicini ad Arzignano, grosso polo conciario, ho iniziato a chiedermi se fosse possibile spostare al settore pelle l’esperienza accumulata nell’ambito del sintetico. In questo modo ci siamo ritrovati con diverse opportunità applicative da esplorare. Da quel momento, la crescita è stata costante.
Come si struttura la vostra azienda? Possediamo circa 8.000mq. di terreno, suddiviso su due stabili. Al momento, la ditta può contare su circa 30 dipendenti altamente qualificati, compresi giovani tecnici motivati. 6 persone sono impiegate nell’ufficio tecnico interno all’azienda. Oltre alle nostre risorse umane, possiamo contare anche su diversi collaboratori esterni. Per esempio, per gli appalti di elettronica, siamo appoggiati su tre ditte diverse, ciascuna con le sue caratteristiche specifiche e la propria specializzazione. Ad oggi, tutte le macchine realizzate in 18 anni di attività stanno producendo.
Costruzioni per le Tecnologiche Avanzate: questo è il vero significato di COS.T.A. Ci può fare qualche esempio? COS.T.A. è da sempre impegnata nello sviluppo di soluzioni tecnologicamente all’avanguardia, sempre più performanti e affidabili, e, nel corso degli anni, abbiamo depositato diversi brevetti e abbiamo presentato molte innovazioni di grande successo. Una di queste consiste nel rifinire le pelli di vitello in maniera totalmente innovativa, usando una quantità di poliuretano a base d’acqua inferiore rispetto alle rifinizioni standard. Un’altra innovazione è un nuovo processo di rifinizione pelli su matrici a base d’acqua, destinate all’automotive e con performance accettate dai migliori marchi nel settore.
Per voi, la competitività si accompagna al rispetto per l’ambiente e alla tutela della salute dei consumatori e dei lavoratori. Abbiamo spinto molto per sviluppare rifinizioni con poliuretani a base d’acqua, impensabili fino a una decina di anni fa. Alcuni gruppi importanti, come Gruppo Mastrotto SpA e Sirp SpA, hanno condiviso con noi questa strada e sono stati premiati dal mercato. Questo ci ha permesso di contribuire alla riduzione, davvero consistente, dei livelli di inquinamento fatta registrare negli ultimi dieci anni. Tuttavia, c’è ancora molta strada da fare.

Established in 2000 and based in Montebello Vicentino (Vicenza province), COS.T.A. srl is a company specialized in the design, manufacturing and installation of complete lines and plants for carrying out special processing techniques such as coating, embossing, printing, coagulation, coupling, finishing of splits and leathers. Founded by three technicians featuring a long- standing experience in the coating field, the firm has grown into a prominent name, praised on the international markets for its high-tech machines, perfect to be used on a wide range of materials – not only synthetic leather, but also fabrics, paper, plastics, ABS, PVC and polyurethane, plastic films, hides and technical fibers such as carbon, Kevlar and glass. In addition to a catalogue of tailor-made solutions, COS.T.A. can rely on highly qualified human resources, able to provide an efficient pre- and post-sales assistance service. All the machines manufactured by the company headquartered near Vicenza are subject to constant tests and checks, in full compliance with the EU regulations concerning quality control and safety. Substantial corporate resources are invested in R&D activities, thanks also the support of the in- house technical office: the ultimate goal is to launch equipments and plants that are increasingly safer, competitive and reliable, yet, at the same time, more practical and user-friendly. We interviewed Mariano Rovetti, one of the founding partners, who explained us more in detail the secrets to the success of this all-Italian enterprise.
Let’s talk about COS.T.A.’s establishment.
The company was founded in 2000, but several employees boast thirty years of experience in coating. For example, I was sixteen when I started working in this sector. I was a technician, so I dealt with the assembly and testing phases. In the firms I was employed in the past, I travelled a lot abroad: once reached the destination, I put together my team and then proceeded to the alignment, calibration and testing of the plant. I have always been very enthusiast about my job. With more than 30 years of experience in the industry, me and my partners understood that there was space for a new kind of approach and so, we gave life to COS.T.A.
What is the secret to your success?
Due to the crisis affecting the textile industry between the late ‘90s and early 2000s and to the stunning growth of the Chinese competitors, we understood that the only way to achieve success was to learn to do something completely new. What we needed were truly innovative ideas. Since we were located close to Arzignano, a major tanning district, I started wondering if it was possible to switch the experience acquired in the synthetic industry to the leather branch. In this way, we have broadened our scope of action in terms of application opportunities. From that moment, we have kept growing steadily.
Can you describe the corporate structure?
We own an area amounting approximately to 8,000 sqm., divided on two facilities. Currently, the company can count of about 30 highly qualified employees, including young, passionate technicians. A six-member staff works in the in-house technical office. Besides our human resources, we are backed by several external collaborators. For example, as far as electronics is concerned, we can rely on three different companies, each one featuring its specific characteristics and specialization. To date, all the machines manufactured since the firm’s foundation are working.
Costruzioni per le Tecnologie Avanzate: this is the true meaning of the COS.T.A.’s acronym. Can you give us some examples?
COS.T.A. has been focusing on the development of technologically advanced solutions, increasingly high-performance and reliable, and, over the years, we have filed several patents and launched many successful innovations. As in the case, for example, of the groundbreaking technology for the finishing of calfskins that uses an inferior quantity of water-based polyurethane compared to traditional methods. Another interesting innovation we implemented concerned a new leather finishing process with water-based moulds, designed for the automotive sector and whose performances have been praised by the major industry brands.
For you, competitiveness goes hand in hand with environmental safeguard and with the protection of the consumers’ as well as of the employees’ health. We have invested significant resources in the development of finishes featuring water-based polyurethanes, considered unfeasible up until ten years ago. A few renowned tanning groups such as Gruppo Mastrotto SpA and Sirp SpA have shared this commitment with us and have been rewarded by the market. In this way, we have managed to actively contribute to the lowering of the pollution levels registered over the last decade. Nevertheless, there is still much to do.
