Digitization, circular economy, sustainable productivity, predictive maintenance, carbon footprint assessment. These are the keywords lying at the core of the transition to green economy undertaken a few years ago by Brustia Alfameccanica, – company established in 1958 in Vigevano, at the forefront in the manufacturing of heel nailing and fixing machines, of backpart and toe moulding technologies for the footwear sector. As a matter of fact, Brustia Alfameccanica’s production addressed to shoe factories is entirely automated and interconnected according to the Industry 4.0 parameters; moreover, every machine features the Carbon FootPrint Green Label fostered by Assomac, that is, the labelling system concerning the energy-environmental performances of the industry technologies. This is the scope of action of the whole BAT division as well: acronym standing for Brustia Advanced Technology, this is an innovative start-up dedicated to the development and making of quality control systems equipped with X-ray technology and of product traceability devices provided with RFID/NFC as well as QRcode technologies.

In a such a competitive market, the implementation of a quality system lays the foundation for an efficient business, able to markedly reduce waste and to operate at high levels in terms of productivity. The inspection equipment with non-destructive X-ray system designed by BAT allows to identify either foreign objects or potential flaws within the product under examination, thus checking its compliance with the firm’s quality standards way before its launch on the market.

Among the smart devices conceived to support the fashion industry as well as other sectors, a special mention goes to the solutions that rely on the potential of the RFID technology so as to improve corporate efficiency and to optimize industrial processes such as the warehouse management and logistics. In this case too, BAT can provide several custom technologies devised to meet an ample range of demands and requirements.

As for the footwear field, thanks to the RFID radiofrequency identification technology, it is no longer necessary to set up machines according to the different models processed: each machine is able to recognize autonomously its specific type of shoe and manages to programme the required parameters accordingly. Furthermore, RFID helps ensure the product’s traceability throughout the production-distribution-sale cycle. “Thanks to tags, namely, peculiar electronic labels inserted within each single article, devised to store data and to respond to the remote queries of specific devices called readers, either fixed or movable, it is possible to map out the shoe factory’s whole processing cycle,” explained Andrea Boscarello, Brustia Alfameccanica’s Sales manager. “Our systems communicate with the management programme of the customer’s enterprise, so as to create a true DNA of the shoe: from the making of the semi-finished article to the finishing phase, from its storage in the warehouse to the completion of the daily billing, up to the shipment and to store delivery, each stage is traced and identified via the product’s massive analysis.” At the same time, the RFID technology simplifies goods monitoring operations as well: “Equipped with a specific gate/tunnel for the maximum RFID reading, the system verifies automatically that the finished article, either placed in a box or stacked on a pallet, fully complies with the order, thus reducing by 99.9% mistakes and blunders.

Our RF60, RF120 and RF240 platforms,” stated Boscarello, “feature several functions: besides automating goods’ handling procedures, they can calculate automatically both the weight and the volume of the articles to be shipped.” BAT is able to provide the clientele with all-in-one solutions, encompassing both the hardware components and the software programme, the latter including the management system.
