Gamar Italia: a tribute to studs

Combined with clothes, shoes and accessories... the studs have been with us for a while, but the concept of stud as we mean it today dates back to the 70s, when it was associated mainly with the punk movement, then metal and dark.

Combined with clothes, shoes and accessories… the studs have been with us for a while, but the concept of stud as we mean it today dates back to the 70s, when it was associated mainly with the punk movement, then metal and dark. Once the stud was the essential feature of certain styles and movements, today it is widespread in any context, no longer seen as an element of “rebellion” as it was in the beginning. It is now a pure ornament, usually disc or square-shaped, made of metal but also of plastic, used for leather goods but also for other types of itmes and materials. This fashion accessory was widespread in revolutionary London at the time of the Rolling Stones, the Clash and the Sex Pistols. The city at the time was the trendiest in the field of music, behavior and aesthetics. There, the great designer Vivienne Westwood, eccentric and unconventional, was the first to launch chains, leather and studs: from that moment on, an escalation of success had begun and would soon end up inspiring the collections of many future designers. In the 70s-80s studs had a pointed shape, aimed at destabilizing, shocking, and on the whole they underlined a very “hard” look. From the 90s, however, they seeped into the catwalks and then the matter changed. Gamar Italia comes into play and shares the real boom of studs, which arose from the 2010 collections, when stylists began to show not only studded accessories, but also dresses. Gamar designers have worked to eliminate all limits to this decorative element, practically omnipresent, both on casual and ultra-refined pieces. The productions covered the most varied requests, both in materials and colors: iridescent effects, fluorescent paint, anodizing, sublimation, antiquing, etc…. Over time, shoes have become the accessory on which studs have been applied in most original ways and this has become the company’s specialization. The technical department keeps on changing such subject, year after year. Several types have been developed: pirate-style, Steampunk, enhanced with stones and rhinestones, minimal, baby lines and much more; also, texture effects and design developments about shapes and volumes have been carried out. The road the studs went through is long, but there is still a lot to develop and experiment with. Gamar Italia is at the forefront in the challenge and loves to follow and repeat Westwood’s motto: “If you are in doubt, exaggerate”.
