Selasti’s commitment to go foward while respecting the environment goes on unceasingly. “We keep on producing compounds containing recycled EVA from our recovered material up to 65% of the virgin polymer mass”, affirms Carlo Massi at the latest Lineapelle edition. “We remind you that the entire G SIDE® brand compounds production process has been verified, standardized and certified according to the UNI EN ISO 14021:2016 regulation. We’ve established relationships with a company that produces a particular seaweed-based EVA that can be used by 20% for the production of EVA sheets. We have also developed a totally biodegradable microporous compound whose production started recently – we will soon launch the project officially.” The attempt to reduce the production footprint without giving up to the creation of high-quality articles, is supported by a product diversification strategy to reach new customer segments within markets other than those in which the Florentine company already works since 1968. “At the fair, we showcased a suitcase molded in EVA with extremely light characteristics,” continues Massi. “Last but not least, the upgrading of our traditional EVA foam products continues:” in a completely renovated exhibition space, microporous sheets made of EVA and foam rubber in all possible and imaginable colors were displayed, as well as injection-molded EVA soles increasingly lighter, flexible, comfortable and carefully designed. Obviously, they were all certified according to the regulation regarding the content of toxic and bio-accumulative substances. “From a production perspective – concludes Massi – the period was positive, as well as there was no lack of participation and interest of customers and visitors. However, working in this circumstantial situation is not easy: energy costs in the company – an issue that, until the last year, affected only marginally our turnover– increased by 400% in a few months. Another worrying factor is the excessive increase in the supplies that are also impossible to trace. As a result, we had to raise prices as well, but by the indispensable minimum that allows us to continue profitably without going out of business. Unfortunately, there is no way to make predictions, either.”
