Todesco, Processes under control with Business Intelligence

Todesco srl of Creazzo (Vicenza) monitors processes, productivity and maintenance through STATWATCH technology and customer service: a new frontier for the future

“Processes, productivity and maintenance is under control with Business Intelligence, thanks to STATWATCH and our customer service”. This is the new frontier, linked to the most recent developments but with an eye to the future, launched by Todesco srl of Creazzo (Vicenza), a leading company in the production of high-performance finishing lines used by the best and most important tanneries in the world, which has always made modern and innovative technologies one of its corporate strategies. A positive path, capable of staying ahead of the competition compared to other companies in the tanning sector, strongly desired by brothers Paolo and Giorgio Todesco, currently leading the company founded by their father in 1976.
At the headquarters, we interviewed Giulio Gobbi, Head of Software Development and Automation at the Vicenza company, who explained how this technology is applied and, above all, how it has been incorporated into the workflow at Todesco.
“Business Intelligence,” says Gobbi, “is a set of processes, technologies and tools that enable organisations to collect, integrate, analyse and present business information to aid decision-making. For us, it represents a further step forward, which we try to make every year, aimed at the need to invest in technology, as we have always done in our sector. We often carry out this in partnership with other companies and universities as well.”
How is Business Intelligence integrated into production and maintenance processes?
“With intervention monitoring systems and with real-time analysis of the production performance of machinery. Our STATWATCH software is to all intents and purposes a Scada system, and with it we collect and analyse data, providing our clients with a series of parameters, which are also not require a machine technician to convey which production stage you are in: this is a key aspect because we do not have to worry about the reliability of the individual.”
More specifically, what do you mean by productivity control?
“It is not a mere data collection, but provides the qualitative result of production, identified in the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness). The user is able to check the actual output (square meters finished), but also what a hypothetical output would have been if time had not been spent on tasks that were disadvantageous because they were not performed in a planned and preventive manner or because they were performed at the wrong time. As an example, we are able to estimate the production loss due to excessive spacing between skins, or due to the time spent on color control and correction, or again, the impact of time spent on color control and correction.
What are the machines on which the new technologies will be used?
“All those in our range. From the Innover lines, to the Kingfisher Lines and up to Speedster 2.0 for in-line color sampling. All our machines are remotely controllable, a great advantage that we have been guaranteeing for some time.”
For Todesco brand customers, what will be the main benefits of this additional new system?
“First of all, we believe it is a concrete response to market needs. One of our company’s strong suits, and it still applies today, is the efficiency of the machines in what concerns chemical consumption. However, there is another intangible asset that is vitally important nowadays: time. Without control of machine performance and in the absence of concrete support that impacts precisely where time losses are greatest, lowering production costs is a difficult goal to achieve.”
