The 5th edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit was held at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, New Town, Kolkata on February 7-8, 2019. Mr. P.R. Aqeel Ahmed, Chairman, CLE and many other dignitaries from the leather industry also graced the inaugural session.
The Country Session on Italy was held on 7th February, 2019 in the Bengal Global Business Summit. H.E. Ambassador of Italy, Mr. Lorenzo Angeloni , H.E. Consul General of Italy in Kolkata, Mr. Damiano Francovigh and many other dignitaries from the Italy graced the occasion. Dr. Krishna Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary & Resident Commissioner of West Bengal, represented Govt. of West Bengal in the session.

Mr. Ramesh Juneja, Regional Chairman, CLE, ER, Mr. Imran Ahmed Khan, Member-COA, CLE, Mr. Tapan Nandi, Member-COA, CLE, Mr. Md. In the country session with Italy, Mr. P.R. Aqeel Ahmed, Chairman, CLE spoke about the strengths Indian Leather Industry and future outlook of the exports of leather & leather products. He said that the ties of the Indian Leather Industry with Italy is deep and is expected to strengthen further in the years to come. He further elaborated that the export of leather & leather products in the year 2017-18 was USD 5.74 Billion. Further elaborating, Mr. P.R. Aqeel Ahmed added that the India Leather Sector has achieved important milestones, today it is the 2nd largest producer of footwear, 2nd largest exporter of Leather Garments, 5th largest exporter of Leather Goods and 3rd Largest Exporter of Saddlery and Harness items. On the whole, India is the 8th largest global exporter of leather, leather products and footwear. The sector as a whole employs about 4.42 million workers with women employment of around 40%.
West Bengal occupies a prominent place in the Indian Leather Sector. The Leather Industry of Eastern Region achieved an export turnover of around USD 670 million in the year 2017-18. Mr. P.R.
