“Thanks to the belt buffing machine we have completed our range of products”. These are the words uttered by Mr. Mauro Bergozza, CEO of the Company Bergi S.p.A. based in Arzignano (VI), while welcoming us at his stand during the Simac-Tanning Tech Fair held in Milan in the last month of February. The last born at BERGI’s is the ATTIVA, a machine we introduced last year. It is the first through-feed belt buffing machine with the feeding conveyor for soft leathers that has already been welcomed with appreciation by tanneries both in Italy and abroad. The Veneto-based Company has a 55-years historical background, rich of success and acknowledgements since its foundation in 1965 by Cav. Giovanni Bergozza who disappeared few years ago.

Today the leader of the Company is Mauro Bergozza, chief executive together with his two brothers Alberto and Federico. In 2015 BERGI celebrated the milestone of the half-century of activity and in the following five years the Company introduced a new successful machine each year.

“Admittedly – Mauro Bergozza says – in the five years following our 50th birthday we have launched a new top-of-the-line model that allowed us to widen and complete our range of products, responding to almost any exigency of the tanning industry. In 2016, we started the designing of the Pegasus, that was the first prototype of automatic horse leather-spreading-machine and that today is a standard model; while the following year we have presented the Starlux S Vario, the first through-feed rotative press that can process leathers in three different ways: ironing and embossing by pressure, ironing by thickness or ironing by long contact. In 2018, we launched the Supervario, that is to say the new series of heavy duty ironing and embossing machines that we presented in two models: Supervario T: the through-feed heavy embossing, that has already been delivered to more than 15 tanneries, which is equipped with the leather pre-heating system and that offers a 30% wider embossing area compared to the machines present in the market; and the Supervario V with the variable geometry for the long-contact ironing and the trough-feed heavy embossing. Eventually, in 2019, we have started the designing and the manufacturing of the ATTIVA machine that is the first model of through-feed belt buffing machine with feeding conveyor for soft leathers. This model is now already working and it has encountered the outmost appreciation of the majority of our customers”.

However, the real novelty that generated the interest of the visitors during the 2020 edition of the Fair, was the new transfer-film cooling unit that the Vicenza-based Company introduced in combination with the ironing machine Finilux. “Thanks to this device – Mr. Bergozza says – we can obtain a high quality finishing. After preparing the leather, we apply a very thin film to seal it. In this way, we will have a uniform finishing of its entire surface and we will upgrade its selection, while keeping its soft touch. But – Mauro says – the beauty of this device is that it can be applied to any existing through-feed ironing machine and transform any of them into transfer system assembly with a small investment”.

The launching of these models in few years permitted BERGI to reconfirm itself as a leading Company in the leather sector with growing numbers both in terms of turnover and of employees. Today Bergi S.p.A. proudly lists professional people who manage their own departments independently under the supervision of the ownership in every productive sector of the Company. Bergozza family is so deeply concerned in the development of the Company that they have started the works of expansion of the company premises of a further 2600 m2. Once completed, the productive space will reach the 10.000 m2 and in this area there will be a new machine assembling unit and the new R&D department.

“There is no machine more important than the others – the President added – our aim is to have a complete range of machines that can respond to all work exigencies in a sector that becomes everyday more demanding in terms of quality and sustainability. We did not focus only in the creation and promotion of new models every year. Each “company teammate” has concentrated in improving technically the machines. Many of these improvements are not visible just by looking at the machine externally, but the overall quality of the machine in terms of components, technology and performances is constantly enhanced. We are always very proud of the interest that our machines generate among the operators and visitors of the Milan Fair. Most of the time we see their curiosity turn into surprise when they discover the progresses made by our equipments and machineries. Bergi staff derives great satisfaction from the appreciation of the work done and the efforts made by them especially in the past decade”.

Regarding the future developments of the market and what will happen in the year 2020, Mr. Bergozza thinks that “only in the second half of the year we will have a clearer vision of the situation created by the pandemic. We are distributing our products all over the world with an average export quota that goes between the 65 and 70% with China being our most important export market. If this great Country will restart working soon and without conflicts with the other world superpowers, the economy will receive a fresh and positive growing impulse. Never as today is important what the global market means. Anyway, besides Italy, we are present in all those world countries where there is the leather culture because we are aware that only being present where the leather is processed can grant the continuity of our project.
