BERGI, leader in the design, manufacturing and sale of machinery and equipment for the tanning industry, will have a second warehouse by the end of the year
The headquarters of Bergi SpA in Arzignano; the completion of the new compound is expected by the end of the year
At BERGI SpA, based in Arzignano (Vicenza province), 2021 proceeds at brisk pace. A year that should end with the achievement of an important investment (amounting to several million euros), namely the new warehouse, about ten meters high and covering an area of 2,200 square meters. This building, made up of two compounds that, once the works are completed, will be merged into a 5,500sqm single one, will make it possible to significantly expand the company’s production and management area. The enlargement project began at the end of 2017 with the purchase of the land adjacent to the historic headquarters, although the works, which also include an underground parking hosting 23 cars and an outdoor one, began in mid-2019.
Mauro Bergozza
In mid-May we interviewed President Mauro Bergozza of Bergi, supported on the occasion by Sales Manager Morgan Bertoldo, at the headquarters of the company, leader in the design, manufacturing and sale of machinery and equipment for the tanning industry. “The warehouse is basically completed – Bergozza and Bertoldo explained to us – we are now installing the equipment and, if all goes according to forecasts, we will complete it by the end of the year. Here, in addition to the mechanical workshop, we will move the assembly departments, while an additional 900 square meters will be allocated to the administrative and commercial offices, in addition to the technical, production and after-sales office.”
One of the news that will be launched at Simac Tanning Tech in September 2021: the Superstar T model
How did you take advantage of the market slowdown derived from the pandemic in terms of research, development and technological innovations? During the first lockdown we have implemented all the technologies so to improve homeworking, using company resources such as servers, archives and so on. As soon as we returned to the office, we carried out the work as fast as possible to complete all that we had left behind. We committed more depth to all the promotional initiatives that, for work reasons, we couldn’t take care of properly, studying new strategies to show our products and make them more attractive. On the other side, the technical office focused more actively on the achievement of those machines that were conceived and designed before the pandemic.
What strategies did you adopt during the 15-16 months of market slowdown? We have shown our professionalism but also a bit of imagination, as this is an emergency that has never occurred in the past. However, we must say one very important thing: all of this would not have been possible without our customers. As a matter of fact, we were able to work even when the order flow was low thanks to the large amount of orders we gathered before the pandemic and that our customers did not cancel. These orders have allowed us to always work at full speed and to destine to marketing initiatives those energies normally devoted to sales. On the one hand, we are proud of the work done in previous years, thanks to which we built a highly loyal and reliable clientele, on the other we must never forget that we owe our customers sincere gratitude and total respect.
How is the market moving and what prospects do you forecast for the second half of 2021? Currently, the market is more alive than ever. As far as we are concerned, we can record great interest from both Italian and foreign companies, interest that resulted in a marked order increase. However, we are deeply concerned by the materials costs increase; if this trend goes on, it could nullify the progress made so far and the good intentions for the future. We hope that a return to ‘normality’ could also rebalance the price level.
Do you miss the international trade fairs? Trade fairs are always an important moment of aggregation and exchange of ideas that spur growth and competition between companies and that often lead to considerable benefits for everyone. We believe we should focus mainly on the most important and significant events of our sector, but we are also convinced that live exhibitions should not be replaced by online events, that cancel the human contact.
Will Bergi participate in Simac Tanning Tech, scheduled September 22-24, 2021 in Milan? Definitely yes. And if we’ll have the chance to, we will showcase some news – we’re still evaluating this and we’ll do so in the coming months. Milan will almost certainly be the only fair in the world of 2021 and for this reason it could become an extraordinary opportunity to show what has been achieved so far.
