Escomar, a company from Arzignano specialized in the production, maintenance and trade of new and used machines for tannery, presented the electro-hydraulic version of all its models at the fair
“Everyone here at the fair has asked about energy saving, it is an urgent need.” These few words from one of the exhibitors are enough to understand the leitmotiv of the 2022 edition of the Tanning Tech Show in Milan. The speaker is Mariano Ferrari, Sales Manager of Escomar, specialized in the production, maintenance and trade of new and used machines for tannery. “In this period – the opinion of Ferrari – companies in the sector are struggling to survive, as not only gas and energy costs have increased but also everything else, above all due to inflation. Another big problem is related to raw materials: in many cases the price is no longer under control, and even the chemical industries have great difficulty in finding certain products. We have decided to be at the fair and meet the needs of the tanneries to supply what they ask for.”
To be in line with the energy-saving concept, at the exhibition Escomar showcased a great innovation, which aroused great interest. “At the center of the stand – specifies the manager – we decided to display a wet blue hydraulic press, as we did at previous editions; the real news is that, in addition to the usual hydraulic versions, all models can be electro-hydraulic powered: we have ascertained that by moving the rotation of the felts through an “inverter” it is possible to obtain a significant cost reduction. For example, a 100-kilowatt machine can do the same job with 80-85 kw, so let’s talk of an hourly saving between 15 and 20%, which in months, means a lot of money. We have foreseen this possibility not only on the most powerful machines, but also on 40- 50 kilowatts ones. This solution is gaining interest even abroad, where we work a lot, particularly in European countries, while in the Asian ones, which I follow closely, they still prefer the hydraulic option for climatic reasons: with the heat and humidity, in which they live for most of the year, they are wary of electronics, also considering that there is the risk for the electronic boards to corrode due to the tanneries’ working environment, still full of solvents, chromium and salt.”
Other news were launched at the 2022 edition. “At the fair we showcased a vacuum dryer where to insert small pieces of leather to be used for tests. This is the perfect solution for chemicals manufacturers or for those tanneries featuring an in-house research center. Today, many companies rely on their own laboratory, so to have full control of the whole production process.”
Still in the ecological field – concludes Mariano Ferrari – we presented a pump to eliminate the fleshing, thus keeping the tannery clean and tidy: thanks to it, all the waste deriving from the fleshing of the hides, instead of being shoveled by hand, it is transported by means of the pump to a recovery bin, located outside the plant; this avoids dirt and bad odors inside the tannery.”
