At the February 2019 edition of Tanning Tech, one of the most crowded stands was the one set up by DVLeather, that is, the joint venture between the Detect Vision – based in Montreal, Canada, specialized in visual technologies – and Feltre, an Italian enterprise located in Montorso (Vicenza province, in the heart of the Arzignano’s leather district), leader in the production of automation and transport systems.
The merging of the skills and assets of both firms, has allowed to utterly change the sector by implementing a unique, innovative attitude: as a matter of fact, DVLeather has developed new systems able to optimize the efficiency of leather inspection processes, thus ensuring top-notch quality and performance standards thanks to a cutting-edge technology based on computer vision and designed for the tanning industry. Said solutions are perfectly in line with the Industry 4.0 requirements.
“During the exhibition,” explained Luca Tisato, sales manager at the Montorso-based headquarters, “we have showcased advanced machinery, starting with leather scanning models. Two of the aforementioned machines are active in just as many tanneries headquartered in Arzignano, featuring excellent results. We’ve recently installed a new one abroad, in an important plant specialized in the production of leather for the automotive sector.”
“This has been a long journey,” confirmed Tisato, “given that the development phase started around two years ago, backed by significant efforts in terms of software programmes, resulting in this machine, able to make the selection of leather in real time. The performances are incredibly high, if you think that machine is able to point out the flaws of the hides, automatically selected, very rapidly, in 12/13 seconds, thus ensuring a productivity rate amounting to approximately five hides per minute.
