The “Cav. Vincenzo Andolfi” museum, established in 1998, preserves and exhibits an exemplary collection of shoes, shapes, machinery and tools, representing the costume and production history of the city in its local context. The exhibition consists of three sections in the five rooms, illustrating the transformation that footwear has undergone from an artisan dimension into an industrial district, narrating the “material” artisanal production over time on one side and the footwear industry as an “immaterial” issue consisting in the know-how of quality shoes production processes, on the other side.
From the faithful reproduction of an artisan workshop, the path continues in the first section dedicated to footwear of the past of any place. The second one, in expansion, is intended for shoes that belonged to famous people: from popes (Leo XIII, Paul VI, John XXIII, Pius XI, John Paul II) to sports champions (Gino Bartali, Francesco Moser, Giovanni Trapattoni, Valentino Rossi, Marco Tardelli, Valentina Vezzali, Giovanna Trillini, Zinédine Zidane, Alessandro Del Piero, Roberto Baggio, Jury Chechi, Mario Cipollini, Cristiano Ronaldo, Christian Vieri), from Nobel Prize winners (Derek Walcott, Dario Fo) to important politicians and entertainment vips, like Giulio Andreotti, Milva, Bobby Solo and the tenor Beniamino Gigli. The third section is entitled to the current Marche footwear production and hosts exclusive models of brands (Tod’s, Loryblu, Debut etc.), which for their innovative character have won numerous awards all over the world.
