On May 4th and 5th, the Livestock Farming Methane Forum will bring together the world’s leading specialists to debate the challenges, methodologies and solutions for reducing beef cattle methane emissions
JBS, global leader in protein–based food, in partnership with Silvateam, the world’s leading producer of plant extracts used in animal feed, will hold an event on May 4th and 5th to promote debates and reflections about methane emissions in the beef cattle chain and the measures that can help to decelerate global warming. The Livestock Farming Methane Forum – the path to climate neutrality will bring together at the São Paulo Hilton authorities on the matter who will take part in an extensive program of talks and debates.
The speaker list includes names like Frank Mitloehner, professor in the Animal Husbandry Department of UC Davis; Diana Rodgers, director and co–author of the film and book “Sacred Cow”; Eduardo Assad, researcher at FGV and Cepagri–Unicamp; Peer Ederer, director and founder of GOAL Sciences – Global Observatory on Accurate Livestock Sciences; Aimable Uwizeye, director of Livestock Farming Policy of the FAO; Henry Darren, professor at the Georgia University; Maik Kindermann, director for innovation
and technology at DSM and inventor of Bovaer; Fabiana Villa Alves, substitute director of Sustainable Production and Irrigation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Farming and Supply (MAPA); Marcelo Manella, director of Animal Nutrition at Silvateam Brasil; among others. Fábio Dias, livestock farmer relationship officer of JBS, will also be among the speakers and will talk about the initiatives of JBS in line with the commitment to Net Zero 2040.
“JBS has taken on the commitment to zero the net balance of its greenhouse gas emissions. Part of this challenge involves methane emissions in the beef cattle chain for which we are developing mitigation projects. Even so, we know that we don’t have all the answers. That is why we are holding an event of this magnitude for the purpose of bringing together the leading names on the planer in this crucial mission”, says Dias.
“Silvateam has been investing, over the last fifteen years, in the search for cutting–edge animal nutrition solutions, promoting the transition towards natural, eco–friendly ingredients. Tannins, saponins and polyphenols are the main natural extracts chosen to increase livestock’s production efficiency, effectively replace antibiotics and improve animal welfare, all while reducing the impact of climate–changing gas emissions”, Michele Battaglia, Silvateam Brasil president, says.
The event will include talks and debates dealing with the true impacts of livestock farming in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, evaluation techniques and metrics, as well as solutions available for mitigating the emissions. Presentations will also include successful case of initiatives in the public and private sectors, as well as opportunities for financing and carbon credits.
The initiative is a joint JBS–Silvateam event sponsored by Tortuga, a DSM brand, and with support from the Sustainable Livestock Farming Working Group (GTPS), the Brazilian Association of Mineral Supplement Industries (ASBRAM) and Liga do Araguaia. The event is presented in a hybrid format to accommodate both in–person and virtual participation.
