At the international event, hosted at the Vicenza Fairgrounds, Leder Chimica of Arzignano presented their new patent, completely lime and sulphide-free process, which has already gone into production
One of the featured companies at Eurocongress, hosted at the Vicenza Fairgrounds in late September, was Leder Chimica, a leading manufacturer of leather chemicals used in the apparel, furniture, footwear, automotive upholstery and interiors, and leather goods sectors. The Arzignano (Vicenza) business, founded in 1986 by Gastone Zanconato and now led by his son Michele, and assisted by his sons Enrico and Filippo, had the privilege of being chosen, out of a total number companies never so high as in this edition, as one of the companies that were able to present particularly significant technological innovations within their stand, to the point of winning over the jury.
“At this international event,” brothers Filippo and Enrico Zanconato told us during the fair exhibition, “we presented the DSS liming process, a patented process which our brand has strongly believed in and invested many resources. For our company this was a fundamental step in the growth and choice, of increasing sustainability, carried out especially in the 2000s. The DSS liming process, has gone production with a patented process that does not involve the use of lime and sulphides, so it is an established system that is becoming increasingly successful. There has been a high level of interest in Vicenza as well, both on the ecological level and on the level of quality that is guaranteed and the improvements that can be made to the leather.”
“The results of the Eurocongress,” the final assessment of the Zanconato brothers, “were largely positive because, although there was not the influx of an international trade fair, many Italian and foreign entrepreneurs and insiders from our sector attended. It was a very technical event, where innovative aspects of the tanning sector emerged, to be carefully analyzed and studied. The convention was a good opportunity to compare and analyze together the innovations of the future, while enrichment also came from the stage, with interesting reports and studies.”
The last analysis concerns the economic situation worldwide. “The only market that is currently on stand-by is China, it seems that since the start of Covid it is the only market that is tending to increasingly close-in on a domestic economy. For the rest, despite the factors that are affecting every industrial sector, we are registering steady sales in the other countries, which makes us moderately confident ahead of 2023. The situation in Italy is also quite stable, as new markets are seeking to always be addressed, regardless of the performance of the eastern market. Certainly the problems, moreover common to all, concerning the supply of raw materials and rising energy costs, have not helped the desired recovery. Regarding the gas and energy price emergency, the objective is to become up-to-date on renewables, with the aim of being able to get to self-management at the energy level: it will be difficult to achieve this in the short term, but even in this area the choices are now forced, we need to be efficient.”
