“The encounter with the textile technology linked to graphene is now bearing fruits” says Valerio Baiardo, CEO of Schmid, during the latest Lineapelle edition. The collaboration between the Italian-made cloths converter and Directa Plus, one of the world’s largest suppliers of graphene nanoplatelet-based compounds for the consumer and industrial market, goes on. “Due to its thermal conductivity, mechanical resistance, lightfastness, antimicrobial and antiviral features, graphene is a very interesting and promising material, capable of revolutionize the performance of our textile supports (first of all, linings) for the footwear and leather goods sectors”. Directa Plus products, identified by the G+® brand, are virgin nanoplatelets obtained through a patented method based on the physical – but not chemical – transformation of natural graphite. “It’s an almost mythical product, its technical features are amazing: graphene success in fashion depends on the vision ability of the interlocutor with whom we interact, on his sensitivity not only towards aesthetics, but specially its functional value. This is why we’ve seen a growing interest from the safety and accident prevention sector. Unfortunately, a great damage on companies that, like Directa Plus, have made enormous investments to create a sustainable and enabling material, is generated by the circulation of adulterated products on the market”. Schmid’s sustainable innovation don’t end here. “We’ve finally managed to develop a mesh made by 70% of recycled nylon, that achieves acceptable standards of tear resistance and color fastness. In general, we’ve refreshed the entire collection and increased the folder of eco-sustainable articles, also promoting the creative reuse of materials from the warehouse”.
