A difficult, tough year, but TEKNOLEATHER, based in Arzignano (Vicenza province), is confident about the future, and hopes the recovery will come in the first half of 2021. Despite a market penalized by the health emergency that is affecting the whole world and, above all, that is destroying markets and consumption, the Veneto-based company has strongly pursued a development plan that led to the inauguration of a new chemical laboratory at the beginning of autumn. This modern structure, located on the company’s second floor and equipped with the most advanced technological tools, will enhance and improve the research and development process that began in 2013, when the owner Santino Mecenero founded the company.

As mentioned, this 2020 was characterized by Covid-19, which did not spare any continent on earth; it ultimately penalized the economy at every level. “All companies of almost every sector – adds the CEO – faced the spring lockdown, few weeks during which every business had to stop; during this period, we had the opportunity to get updated and to keep on doing research and analysis through smart working: this, in any case, proved to be useful and profitable. Once we reopened in May, we recorded a slight restart, especially of foreign market, albeit with different situations between the various sectors: for example, the segment related to furniture had a moderate increase, while the automotive is slowly restarting thanks to the incentives.”
“Tanners represent a tenacious ‘community” – concludes Santino Mecenero –, who never give up. Specifically, the entrepreneurs of Arzignano immediately set out to recover what was lost, started producing leathers and reactivating contacts with customers and agents scattered all over the world. They should be praised for their commitment and for what they have done, also keeping in mind that a part of them, albeit with a reduced workforce, also worked during the lockdown to ensure that the food chain cycle, linked to meat, would not be interrupted.
