Dermacolor, advanced biofinishing

Dermacolor’s Future Fit tanning system becomes even more performing and sustainable, evolving to the finishing phase

The advanced Future Fit tanning system developed by Dermacolor evolves and is perfected with an innovative bio-finishing method intended to further improve the environmental and technical performance of the leather.

The daily commitment of the Tuscan company specialized in the production of chemical auxiliaries for leather processing is based on the ability to research and develop responsible solutions in step with the needs of those tanning industries that have put the concepts of innovation and sustainability at the basis of their own business. Extremely performing in technical and sustainability terms in all wet end phases, from which biodegradability and compostability of the leather can be obtained, the Future Fit process is now also completed in the finishing phase thanks to the innovative biobased finishing method “L1 Biofinishing System from Evolved By Nature”.

Let’s analyze the specific characteristics of the Future Fit system in its main phases.
During rehydration, the hide is fleshed and the flesh obtained is washed and purified using only water, sodium carbonate and enzymes. The latter, nourishing themselves with hyaluronic acid, make the hide permeable to water. From the soaking process, a secondary raw material is therefore obtained, intended for the production of protein hydrolyzed gelatin for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and food industries.

In the liming phase, the hair is removed using 42% less polluting chemical substances compared to traditional systems, while in the deliming phase, ammonium sulphate and chlorides are eliminated: this results in a significant reduction in the environmental impact of both processes. In pretanning and retanning, the Future Fit process does not rely on bisphenols, allowing different types of tanning to be carried out – traditional vegetable tanning, Future White vegetable tanning (without pickel) for certified biodegradable and compostable leathers, traditional chrome and D Light Blue chrome (without pickel) – keeping high technical and environmental performance.

To offer a solution that is completely in line with the new needs of the supply chain in terms of sustainability, Future Fit now also integrates the finishing phase: “The L1 Biofinishing System from Evolved By Nature” replaces petrochemical products with natural ones, improving performance without compromising, once again, the habitat in which we live and its conservation.
