Syn-Bios S.p.A., since its establishment, the company has been engaged in the R&D, manufacturing and worldwide marketing of chemicals principally for leather tanning industry.
In the spirit of concretely contributing to the environment protection and the chemicals safety handling, SYN-BIOS SPA, after obtaining the environmental certification according to ISO 14001:2015 in 2018, in the first months of 2020 has demonstrated compliance with ZDHC’s MRSL of some of its main products, later uploaded to the Gateway serving its customers.
The aim is to demonstrate that SYN-BIOS SPA fully adheres to the ZDHC program, because it has always been sensitive to the harmful substances elimination from the production cycle both with regard to people health and their release into the environment. The ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous chemicals) program, created in 2011 with the aim of eliminating any discharge of harmful substances by 2020, includes a list of restricted substances (MRSL) related to three priority and crosscutting areas: – Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) & Research – Audit protocol – wastewater quality The ZDHC Foundation has developed a digital platform that allows the secure information exchange within the production chain, the aforementioned Gateway. The intention is to create a worldwide database on chemical safety for the textile, footwear and leather industry.
The ZDHC Gateway – Chemical Module gathers chemical products voluntarily included by the formulating companies that comply with the ZDHC program requirements, after being verified by third-party analysis. This way, SYN-BIOS SPA aims at guaranteeing the end user that the products fully comply with the MRSL and that they can be safely purchased, being aware of using a safer formulation, with a particular regard to the environment. After registering to the Gateway, the interested customers can access the information published by SYN-BIOS SPA to ensure their products safety.
By using these formulations, they may guarantee that the items they will produce will not be contaminated by any substances considered dangerous by the ZDHC team and listed in the MRSL and that even the wastewater of the production processes will not contain them. www.synbios.com
A NEW LINE OF DYEING: METAL-FREE®
To overcome the Chrome-free tanning, it has been conceived the Metal-free tanning that includes all those tannings that do not use heavy metals, i.e where also the chrome has been eliminated. A heavy metal-free tanning has a low environmental impact, with high biodegradability characteristics, and it is ideal for creating articles designed for people allergic to chromium and other metals. At this purpose, SYN-BIOS SPA has developed a new range of micro dispersed pigments in aqueous system (METAL-FREE®), specially selected to make metal-free leathers even during the finishing phase, according to the definition reported in the UNI EN 15987: 2015 regulation [“Animal skin converted into leather, whose total content of all leather tanning metals (Cr, Al, Ti, Zr, Fe) is less than or equal to 0.1% (mass of the sum of all metals / total weight of dry leather)”]. The tones of the METAL-FREE® series cover the entire color range, ensuring maximum yield and high coverage. The range also guarantees the best chemicalphysical features in order to obtain an article intended for leather goods, footwear, furniture and automotive. The METAL-FREE series designed by SYN-BIOS SPA, as well as respecting all the limits imposed by ZDHC MRSL v.2.0, is structured in such a way as to allow the use of all colors, singularly or in combination, without exceeding the concentration of 0.1% with regard to the sum of the 5 tanning metals present in the finished article.
